Approximately 60-70% of people with epilepsy will have their seizures controlled with medication. But even when epileptic seizures are controlled with medication the drugs used may have unpleasant, unwanted side effects. Ideally what patients and clinicians are looking for is a drug which works effectively and has no down side. Now new research from the Australian National University aims to look at the molecular level to find a way of reducing negative side effects without reducing the drug’s efficacy.
